About Me

My name is Aoife Ryan. My pronouns are she/they.  I am married and have 2 children.   In a previous life I worked in many corporates, before taking some time to have my children.  Having them set me a on a journey to where I find myself today !

I began my personal journey in earnest so that I could be the very best version of myself that I could be both for myself, and for my children. My studies, experience and own personal mentoring and growth have been absolutely life changing and have made an incredible difference to me personally and as a parent.  Understanding my own story, with compassion and love, helps me compassionately understand and connect with my clients. Discovering the true meaning of unconditional love has opened up a whole new world for me.

I continue my personal journey seeing a personal mentor regularly and engaging in regular supervision to ensure the highest professional standards are maintained. I graduated with First Class Hons in HDip in Relationship Mentoring from University College Cork (Level 8). I have fully professional accreditation with IARM, APA and I am a pre-accredited member of NAPCP.  I also hold a HDip in Human Resource Development from National College of Ireland.

I completed an MSc. Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy and Counselling Skills 2021 (Middlesex University).  I attend regular supervision for this work.  This work with adolescents and children is very important to me and hugely rewarding.

I am currently undertaking further study as a Postgraduate Researcher in TUS, researching relational safety in therapeutic relationships.  This is my passion and I am very much looking forward to deepening my understanding and awareness of what relational safety is, how it feels, how it can be developed and maintained in relationships to bring the most positive outcomes in therapy settings.

I have a deep personal interest in working with the LGBTQIA+ community, and in particular trans/non binary adolescents.

Continuous Personal Reflection is a fundamental part of my training and continued development.  Striving to remain conscious and self aware is a daily practice for me.

I have completed many additional training courses in various topics including (but not limited to); "Trauma Treatment for Children", Certified Compassion Fatigue Professional, "The Ethics of Touch in Child Psychotherapy and Play", "Online and Telephone Counselling", "Moving your Practice Online", "Adverse Childhood Experiences and Trauma", "Working with Gender Diversity", "Born Smart - An Inner Course for Teenagers", "Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training", "Nurturing Relationships through Creative and Reflective Play", "Narrative 4 Storytelling Facilitator Training", "Trauma Related Dissociation; Active Consent Facilitator Training, Latest Research and Critical Insights".

I enjoy working with many organisations, providing support for management and staff alike, most recently working with One Family, Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI), Dublin YWCA, AskDirect, JumpAGrade among others.

I am a part-time lecturer on MA The Psychotherapy of Relationship Mentoring in Technological University of Shannon (TUS), and Higher Diploma Relationship Mentoring (UCC).

I participated in Social Entrepreneurs Ireland "Ideas Academy" in 2022, which was hugely rewarding.

I am an ambassador for Suicide or Survive and I am a student mentor on the STEM Passport for Inclusion (Maynooth Univeristy).

My work is an absolute privilege and I continue to be awed daily by my clients and the amazing nature of the Human Spirit.

“Not knowing in our blood and bones that we are truly loved and loveable wisely leads us to hide our capacity to give and receive love. This is the core trauma that generates intrapersonal and interpersonal conflict”

- John Welwood
